Laura Dunn is an artist who lives and works at her studio in Biddeford Maine. She began her art degree at the University of Southern Maine, and after two years transferred to the University of New Mexico where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1996. During her educational career, she took every studio class on offer with an insatiable appetite for a variety of media and techniques. She followed several studio courses through to the advanced level, including painting, printmaking, ceramics, and sculpture. Some of her most formative experiences were course offerings away from the confines of the university: DH Lawrence Summer Program, a course set in the wilderness of southeast Utah, camping, exploring, and making paintings along with a dozen other art students. And Casas Grandes Ceramics, a course set in the high desert of northern Mexico working with local potter Juan Quezada.
She continues to work in a wide range of media including but not limited to sculpture and found object assemblage, painting, drawing, printmaking, and ceramics.

Grounded in representation, Gerding’s work portrays a deep connection to solitude and the landscape. Along with paintings inspired by travel, her move to Kennebunkport in 2015 solidified her commitment to the landscape of Southern Maine. Capturing real moments in time, Gerding allows the viewer to experience the intimacy of nature. She works both in the studio and plein-air, which allows for intense, direct observation.
