Lynn Davenport
I am a longtime summer resident of Biddeford. My wife and I also have a home in Marco Island, Florida, so I have a chance to see nature in all its best, moving between Maine and Florida. Prior to retiring several years ago, we also maintained a fulltime residence in Massachusetts.
I have long enjoyed painting and art, but I have only had a chance to paint over the past four years. As a child, I had a deep interest in art, but then the years and challenges of work got in the way, and although we purchased some wonderful paintings over the years, I never had a chance to return to my childhood interest in painting.
After I retired, and after the time lost to Covid, I decided that it was time to finally begin painting. I have become an enthusiastic watercolor painter, and painting has become a passion. I have had a chance to meet and work with some excellent painters over the past few years, and these people have become mentors and friends. In particular, I owe a special thanks to Russel Whitten and Brad Coupe of the Maine community, who have always readily shared their time and insights. I also had great help along the way from Dick Moody, a great friend and painter from Key West, Florida, who unfortunately passed away this past year.
While I enjoy the sights and subjects of Florida, I most like to paint what is around us in Maine, especially the sea, the boats and harbors, the landscapes, and the historic houses, farms, and barns. I also enjoy painting the sights of Wood Island and its lighthouse, where I volunteer as a docent each summer. I also enjoy boating and fishing in the local waters of Maine.
